Exploring some of Britain’s most famous World Heritage Sites

Britain has 28 historic sites that are on the UNESCO World Heritage list, which are recognised for their important cultural significance and their impact on national and international affairs.
One of Britain’s most famous sites is Big Ben and the Palace of Westminster, which has housed the Kings of England and Parliament for centuries, recognised as an iconic symbol of London. Laws passed in these chambers have been replicated in other parliamentary legal systems around the world, such as the parliaments of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and India. The palace was colloquially the headquarters of the British Empire, which was the largest and most populous in history. Today, the Palace of Westminster and Big Ben remains one of the most significant and influential sites in the world.
Another famous World Heritage Site is Stonehenge, which is estimated to have been constructed around 5,000 years ago. It has been duplicated in numerous sites around the world, particularly the United States, and is an invaluable example of Prehistoric civilisation. Hadrian’s Wall, which marked the historic border between England and Scotland, is arguably the most important Roman monument in Britain and is the most visited tourist attraction in the north of England.
There are countless sites dotted all around Britain, such as Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire, the birth place of Winston Churchill, the stunning Edinburgh Castle that commands one of the finest panoramic views in the country and the infamous Tower of London, situated next to the iconic Tower Bridge. London has more World Heritage Sites than any other city in the world, which also includes Greenwich and Kew Gardens. A trip to Britain would not be complete without visiting at least a handful of these historic sites. Before devising a travel itinerary, research the cheapest flights to London or other UK cities and find the best deal.
